Ingredients

Brown Sugar Syrup

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar dark preferred
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Latte

  • 1/4 cup brewed espresso or very strong coffee
  • 1/2 cup milk whole, oat, or barista-style
  • Ice optional for iced version
  • Pinch of cinnamon or flaky salt optional

Instructions

  • Combine brown sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook until fully dissolved and slightly syrupy, about 2 minutes.
  • Remove syrup from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Brew espresso or very strong coffee.
  • Warm or froth the milk as desired.
  • Add brown sugar syrup to a mug, pour in espresso, then top with milk.
  • For an iced latte, fill a glass with ice before adding syrup, espresso, and cold milk.
  • Finish with a pinch of cinnamon or flaky salt if desired.

Notes

Brown sugar adds deeper caramel flavor than white sugar with no extra effort. Store leftover syrup in the fridge for up to 5 days. For a toddler-friendly version, skip espresso and stir syrup into warm milk.
