- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk. Use a wooden spoon or your hands to mix the ingredients together until a sticky dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it lightly for a minute or two until it comes together into a smooth ball.
Place the dough onto the prepared baking sheet and use a sharp knife to cut a deep cross into the top of the dough.
Bake the bread for 30-40 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Enjoy your delicious Irish Soda Bread!
