Ingredients

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 medium apples peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a 10-inch cast iron skillet in the oven to heat up.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, milk, salt, and cinnamon until smooth.
  • Once the skillet is hot, add the butter and let it melt completely. Swirl the skillet to coat the bottom and sides with the melted butter.
  • Pour the batter into the skillet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are puffed up and golden brown.
  • While the Dutch baby is baking, prepare the caramelized apples. In a medium saucepan, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  • Once the Dutch baby is done, remove it from the oven and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the top. Serve immediately with the caramelized apples on top.
