Chocolate Fudge

- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of chopped nuts optional
Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish and set it aside.
In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat.
Stir the mixture constantly until the sugar has dissolved and the butter has melted completely.
Bring the mixture to a boil and let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and chocolate chips until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
If desired, fold in the chopped nuts.
Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Let the fudge cool at room temperature for about 2 hours, or until it has set completely.
Once the fudge has set, cut it into small squares and serve.
